I was diagnosed with celiac in 2007 so it’s been a while since I’ve had real licorice. It’s been almost as long for my daughters, so we were all excited to try the gluten-free varieties from Candy Tree with their adorable packaging…
In addition to making their gluten-free licorice taste good, Candy Tree has also managed to make it organic, vegan, kosher and dye-free. Their licorice is available in four delicious flavors (traditional black, strawberry, cherry and raspberry) in 4 different forms: bites, twists, lariats and laces.
My girls were not huge fans of the black licorice (I liked it, but I think it’s an acquired taste for some kids) but they did love the red flavors, especially cherry and strawberry. This licorice is chewier than Twizzlers but the taste is very close. We all preferred the texture of the twists and bites the most, but if your g-free kid loves to create in the kitchen, he or she will be thrilled to once again be able to make recipes like these with licorice laces:
- Cake crumb mice with licorice whip tails
- Licorice decorated heart cookies
- Snowman head cookies
- Licorice lace necklace
Candy Tree also makes wonderful organic lollipops, which my girls may have enjoyed even more than the licorice. They said these lollipops tasted just like real lemonade, real oranges and real strawberries. They’re naturally flavored and dye-free, so my daughters’ mouths, tongues and lips were still the original color when they were all finished —
imagine that! 😉
You can order Candy Tree candies for your g-free kid from these websites

Disclaimer: Candy Tree sent me free products to review and more for the giveaway, but as always, I only post positive reviews like this when my g-free girls and I actually like a product. And we did.
My daughter would love to win this to have some new treats for us to share for Valentine’s Day. She and I both have celiac disease, so we are gluten-free girls!
Yum! My son’s hoping we win! Thanks for the review!
I would love to share this with my grandkids.
My children would love to win these because licorice is one candy we really miss.
My daughter would love this! She loved Twizzlers and hasn’t had licorice since she was diagnosed with celiac!
What a great giveaway! My 5 year old who was diagnosed last year is really missing twizzlers and I did not know there was a GF option. We would love your book as well so she could share with some curious friends in her preschool class!
I know my sweet 4 year old daughter has never tasted licorice before and would love to try it! My bigs have tasted it-prediaganosis. I would like the book for her to share with classmates in elementary school.
Katie misses licorice and I have not been able to find it GF.
I pray you pick my 8yr old daughter! She found out that she needed to be Gluten free in October 2012 and it upset her so much. We’ll to make her feel better I have been Gluten free for a year. We are still learning what we can eat and what we gad to let go. So winning this candy would be a blessing to us because we sure do miss eating licorice! 🙏😊❤️🍭
I love licorice. I miss it so much. Yummy!!!! Can’t wait for my kids to try it. 🙂
My daughter has celiac and would love the treats and book. And her 3rd bday is coming up!😉
Would Love to win these for my son he’s been wanting to try gf licorice and we can’t find any.
My 3 year old was diagnosed with celiac at 15 months old and has never been able to have licorice which is a favorite candy at our house. And the book would be great help as he begins to understand the disease.
I am a 50 year old kid at heart! I was diagnose gluten intolerant last summer after 20 years of being sick and misdiagnosed! I think the black licorice was the one thing I missed the most. My 16 year old, who was also diagnosed last summer, sure would love the red licorice. But, in truth, I really want this for me! ~Big Kid at Heart!
My child has been diagnosed celiac disease for 10yrs. Tomorrow is her bday. This would be a great surprise for her. Book would be a great asset for families who do not understand why she has to eat GF all the time. Thank you!
We, especially my daughter (8yo) would be ecstatic to find out she can eat licorice again. It has been 4 years since we have eaten it. We are a celiac family and she misses licorice very much. Thank you for the opportunity and the knowledge!
I have missed licorice I was diagnosed in 2010 and I believe that’s what I have missed the most!
My son is 5 years old and has been gluten free for 1 year. He isn’t diagnosed with celiac, but he has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and taking gluten out of his diet lessens the pain and inflammation tremendously. Going gluten free has allowed him to be active like a 5 year old boy should be. He hasn’t had licorice since he went gluten free, but he loved licorice before. He definitely misses licorice. I know he would love to have licorice again!!
My 2 kids, an 8 year old boy, and almost 7 year old girl, were constantly getting sick, and my son was very very small for his age, as well as in the process of being diagnosed Autistic. Since my mom and I were diagnosed Celiac, my husband and I figured the kids did too. They went GF, and corn-free, and rarely get sick, and my son has caught up to many of the kids his age, and no longer comes across as autistic. I am very proud of them both, because on days when kids, and even teachers give them candy, they politely take it, and save it for Daddy, and I trade them out for something that they can have. We’ve found a very limited selection of things, so often they do not get what ‘other’ kids can have. It would be great to try out this brand of candies, for more variety.
Hi Val. FYI, I wanted to let you know that these candies are not corn-free. The first ingredient on the licorice is “organic corn syrup” and the first ingredient on the lollipops is “organic corn malt syrup”.
My daughter would love these! She has never tried licorice and keeps asking for it.
I have never seen red licorice that is gf – only black – so winning this prize package would be awesome. Thank you for the giveaway.
My son has been gluten free for eight years! I am so proud of him. The way I kept him on track was to always try to provide him the same foods he saw his friends eating but gluten free. He has never tasted licorice. This would be a great treat for him and I can try all those recipes that have licorice in them. Thanks for the opportunity!
My son would love to win so he can share with his daddy, who loves Twizzlers but gave them up when C was diagnosed with celiac. This would be a special treat for them both! And who wouldn’t love a copy of your book? 🙂
GF licorice? Hooray! My daughter and I would love to try it!
My 12 yr old son would LOVE this!! He’s always bummed that his Granny eats Twizzlers but he can’t. This would be WONDERFUL!!
Thanks for the chance, i have the hardest time trying to find licorice! My daughter just turned 3 and is going to go glutenfree now like her Mommy and it is really tough to explain, thats for sure
Mom of candy loving kid here, he would love to try these for sure!
They look delicious! Would love to enjoy these with my son!
No kids of my own yet (except for myself of course) but I do teach at a school where our GF population continues to grow, and I love to share all my GF discoveries with anyone that will listen! I would love to try these products and share them with others.
